==> http://www.arturia.com/downloads/obsemv/beta/Oberheim%20SEM%20V_115_rc5.dmg
It maxs out my cpu and everything grinds to a halt
-
Hi
You mean you have a new problem with this update, not the readsize==bytesize ?
could you describe it please.
When does your CPU change, what happens ?
can you reproduce it !
is in as plug in or not ?
does it happen in another host ?
If you had this when loading a preset, could you please send us the project.

-
yeah, not the bytesize thing.
i have a song with minimal instruments running- couple of plug-ins, spark, couple of external instruments- not much cpu strain from this. as soon as i add the oberheim au and press one note the cpu goes through the roof and throws up a 'system overload' message. happens every time. ive attached a screenshot as it blows up
-
Hi
Thank you for the informations,
I 've never seen this, I will try to reproduce.
Could you please send me your logic project, and your aupreset of the oberheim.
Also what is logic version, are you using it in 64 or 32bit, what os version ?
I could not reproduce it with logic 9, the obsem 1.1.5 on two different 10.7.
I Let you know if I have more info.

yep, here:
logic 9.1.7, 32 bit, Mac 10.6.8, 2.66 ghz dual-core intel xeon
-
Hi
After several tests on different OSes and versions of Logic, including of courses your configuration we could not reproduce it.
So it may happen sometime on your configuration in a specific configuration, or depending on the sequence of action you did. Or it may be related to your set up, anyway currently I can't reproduce it.
We Will release the 1.1.5 to provide everyone a fixes which do not show any drawbacks except in your case, but we will continue to exchange with you and try to find out what is hapenning and hopefully we can find out for the next version.
So don't lose faith we really hope we can help you with this.

thanks for looking into it.
btw also got the jenkins root thing when using spark today
-
Hi
With the 1.1.5 ?
the readsize==bytesize ?
because we noticed that some people who had the bug with 1.1.3 now have a warning saying "out_bytes_read==4"
Which is annoying but not dangerous, clicking ok should just ignore this warning, this is because of corrupted data written by the previous version when the bug readsize==bytesize occured.

Hi,
Same problem here--whether using the standalone or the logic plugin the CPU load goes nuts and I get all sorts of clicks and noise when I play more than a single note. Not sure how to document this, but it seems to have happened since 1.1.3.
-
HELLO out there...Arturia, are you listening? The plugin is unusable right now....
-
Hi
Sorry for the late reply, we will see if that happens but it never occurred here.
Do you have a specific preset to reproduce this ?
What is your platform ? (midi controller, audio interface, os version, host version, plug in format, 32/64)

Hi Adrien,
SEM 1.1.5, Mac OS 10.8.2 64 bit AU plugin with Logic 9.1.8. I finally had the chance to do a bit more testing; the problem is intermittent. I had it the other day but now it's not as severe. I still get clicks and pops when I play, but without as much CPU load (around 20 percent because of a pitch envelope probably). How can I send you a preset (it's one I made) so you can hear this? Do you want me to try to record it?
In the meanwhile perhaps you can have a look at the midi learn business. I just managed to produce a new error (usually it just crashes)....and then it crashes. The report is in the attached RTF doc. This was produced with the standalone (since I don't want to keep crashing logic).
Thanks.

Hi
Thank you for the information, the MIDI Learn bug is fixed in the 1.1.6 as far as I know.
We are currently starting beta on this version.

OK, that's good news. But what to do about documenting the problem with SEM and CPU? As it stands, when I play a cluster of six or more notes (it seems to go this way) with a patch I've made that has a pitch envelope, I get chopped up sound. Nothing else is pulling CPU resources; SEM is running by itself. My impression is that it's barely able to do what it's supposed to do, that there's no headroom. And is thus unusable. :( I'd be happy to make a sound file if you think this would help--what's the best way to document this?
-
The case is getting handled now directly with tech support, but from some basic testing the problem appears to be the interface. When it's open, I get CPU spikes. When closed, things are more or less back to normal. More soon (hopefully in the next version)
-
hi moritmer , i saw your wrapping with automap just a quick tip make sure you rewrapp the plugin after any updates as this can cause problems with the plugin
hope this helps
regards
terrym
-
no wrapping--the plugin is as delivered from Arturia.
-
Well, I was hoping it was getting handled by tech support, but I've since heard nothing. Any news on an upgrade, folks? This one's been hanging around too long!
-
Hi
I'm sorry you had no answer recently.
We will probably release soon (in 1 or 2 weeks).
If you are in a hurry you send me a PM to join the beta

Thanks Adrien--I'm happy to hear that there's a new release in the pipes. I'm happy to wait a bit more. Cheers.
-
Just wanted to add I have exactly the same problem using an imac i7 3.4Ghz running ML 10.8.3 in Cubase 7.0.3. CPU spikes / clicks when the GUI is open but gone when closed.
Cheers.
-
Just downloaded 1.1.6 and it's all good, didn't see that thanks!
-
Back with bad news, got the same problem with 1.1.6 when bringing up the GUI. I'm using the VST in Cubase 7.0.3 on an imac 3.4Ghz i7. Same issue whereas the CPU meter spikes, but does not appear to constantly overload. Causes audio glitches etc, pretty much unusable.
-
Hi
this is strangely coming and not all the time, do you have any project, preset, and reproduction steps please ?
Have you contacted the support ?
Thank you
-
'just wanted to add I have exactly the same problem using an imac i7 3.4Ghz running ML 10.8.3 in Cubase 7.0.3. CPU spikes / clicks when the GUI is open but gone when closed'
im getting the same problem as above, pretty much unusable at the moment
-
hi
I'm sorry to ear that.
could you pplease send me materials (projects ..., presets).
Thank you in advance
-
Its maxing out a single core even with the most basic of set ups - oberheim + spark, nothing else. does the same with a more complicated set up- takes out a single core and logic stutters to a halt.
Analog lab is doing the same thing- massive spike on same cpu core- logic falls apart. cant use this plug-in either..
-
Hi
this is so strange,
Does this also happen when your GUI is closed ?
Best
-
its fine when its not open, attached are screenshots of open and closed
-
Hi again.
This is something weird that we are tracking, that seems to be really sensible on logic.
It is not in 1.1.7, but I really hope we will find this soon.
The best I can say for now to Logic user, is to prefer non GUI interaction when performing live.
Best
(PS send me ths Logic project too please. thank you)
-
Maxing out with just Oberheim, nothing else. happens when the user interface is opened. attached is a screen shot and project file
this plug in has never worked properly from the day i bought it and that must be over 18 months ago now...
Ive also been trying to use this in a more complex project and it keeps crashing, i suspect its the Oberheim
-
Same problem here. Some patches are off the charts with CPU - seems random. It's never worked for me either in Logic - crashes every single time I use it. From 1.1.3 (I think) to now 1.1.6.
-
Allrighty folks! I have this exact problem. Clicks and pops etc. and I'm always afraid of my brand new speakers blowing up... I called to the store I bought my analog factory and Mg modular (It does the same thing on both). They said that my buffer size may be too low. May this be a potential source for the problem? I'm so frustrated with this annoying problem. And the best part: It does it no matter what DAW you use (I have tried on Garageband and Logic 9(latest version)).
-Nacho
Ps. afterwards I saw this thread is for the Oberheim, but it seems to do it with other Arturia softwares too..
-
HI
sorry to ear that,
do you have this issue in other formats on your computer ?
vst, vst3 ... ?
thank you
-
Ehh.. My Logic supports AU-plugins, so haven't had a choise to test it on VST. :/ I sent a message to Arturia support about this issue.. Let's see what happens :) Cheers!
-
Maybe try in reaper or live demo to see if this happens too.
