Title: Powered USB Hubs
Post by: midinut on August 04, 2013, 08:28:35 am
Any recommendations from those of you using them? I've got several passive hubs but figure I need a powered one pretty soon. Thanks in advance.

Well, at my former place of employment we used an Iogear 7-Port High Speed USB 2.0 Mini Hub Mfr #GUH227.  It's cheap (aprox. $24 US) & works, but it constantly fell over easily in its rubber stand. One of the seven ports also stopped working after just a few months.  I wouldn't recommend it.

I'd take a look at the slightly more expensive D-Link DUB-1340 4-Port USB 3.0 Hub.  Or if you have cash and want a little bit of variety check out the Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock.  I have no personal experience with either of these though.

Id buy the best you can afford...i use a belkin, cant remember the model, but it was the priciest i found

Reason being was i had a cheapo one plugged into my macbookpro and fritzed the logic board...cost more to repair than its value so had to throw it away. Not saying it was the USB hub but when i plugged it into my back up Macbook Air it immediately closed down everytime I tried, my pro had "blue screened" a few times before it died...

Prolly not related but I still wouldnt take the risk with another cheapo
