Title: spark & ableton - midi notes
Post by: dansemann on October 29, 2011, 07:28:07 pm
hey, spark sounds, i can draw midi notes in ableton, but the controller itself does not send any midi-signals to ableton, so it does not record "hand-made" patterns. can't figure out what i'm doing wrong. anyone? thanks!

Hi,
for the moment, this is not possible to record into Ableton what you do with the pads.
The workaround is to record it into Spark sequencer then export the pattern in MIDI.

Wait a second, you cant play the pads live into ableton to create a drum beat? i don't use this function often but thats probably the silliest thing ive ever heard. When will this be fixed? i hope its before i ever have to create any hip hop. Pads don't record to ableton, did you forget about that function or something?

You can not record into Ableton Live sequencer but you can record into Spark sequencer.

Really ??? maybe I'm confused. I thought you would just drop Spark on a midi track, Make 8 audio tracks, and change  the mixer tracks in Spark to coincide. Then you have one track per pad assigned, No ? I was planning on trying that......

Title: New: park & ableton - midi notes
Post by: lotuselanjohn on September 19, 2013, 07:30:28 am
I refer to an earlier thread (2011) - Q: Is it still not possible to record individual midi notes from the SPARK controller into ableton live?
The combo seems only able to record pattern changes on the SPARK in Ableton, in which case this tool, although beautiful, is useless.
I really would rather not sell my Spark and go Maschine, but unless this has since been solved, it is my only option?
Urgent advice sought before I seek refund within limited timeframe, please?

Hi,
it is possible to record MIDI from Spark VST into Ableton Live.
You have to enable MIDI from pads (and/or from sequencer) in Spark preferences (see attached screenshot).
Then create a new MIDI track in Ableton and set its input as Spark VST.

Hope this helps
