Title: SPARK USB HUB
Post by: antoni on February 22, 2012, 07:01:58 pm
is it possible to work arturia spark through a usb hub?
im thinking of getting a korg microkey for a VA synth, and it comes with 2 usb ports serving as so called 'hubs" and am wondering if spark will work right with them?

Usually, yes, it all depends on what devices you connect off the USB hub, if it's a passive, non-mains powered one.

If you connect too many power hungry devices, it won't draw enough out of one PC port.

In your case, if the micro Korg acts as a pass-along hub, it may work fine.

This is not recommended to use Spark through a USB hub
However you can give a try and if Spark boots correctly this should be ok.

Additional info: I've been using the Spark controller together with other USB MIDI controllers through a mains powered USB hub and it works fine. So, like I said earlier and along what Kevin also said, it all depends on how much power is being served to and used by the USB devices connected.

Bottom line: I guess you'll need to try it and see if it works ;)

The only issue I have with USB hubs is with audio interfaces. With those I try to have them as directly connected to the computer as possible to avoid any extra latency issues regarding "multiplexed" data (i.e. hub traffic management) and/or longer paths.
