minibrute stuck note
« on: January 15, 2013, 07:08:55 am »
I pulled my new minibrute out of the box.  Experimented for 5 minutes.  Now it appears to have a stuck note... like it's latched.  It's connected to the LFO.
It's as if a key is always being pressed.  Pressing keys changes the pitch...but it never releases.  All ADSR is set to 0.  Moving any fader or knob changes the sound but the sound never releases.
Is there a factory reset on this?
Thanks for any solutions.... I want to love this keyboard.  Thinking it may be junk.

Hi,
please check the Gate selector switch on the back of your machine, it should be set to KBD.

I just got my MiniBrute, and whenever i turn the LFO AMP knob even the slightest it starts pulsing a note, completely free of gate and envelope trigger. The more i turn the knob, the louder it becomes. Back to zero and it falls silent and returns to normal gate/envelope behaviour. Seems like a bug/design error to me.

The gate switch in back has no effect.  Even when I power the unit off and on.  When powering back on no key needs to be touched.. audio just starts happening... LFO going nuts.  I can change the pitch by touching the keyboard.. but it's endless, like a feedback loop.

Good grief.  I exchanged the minibrute for another.  Brought it back to the studio. Same thing.  "Worked" for about 5 min before it stuck in perpetual "Note on" mode.
Latch switch in the back does nothing.  Powering it off and on does nothing.  Don't even need to depress a key.. it's like the note is stuck.  I should also add that prior to the "freeze" the ADSR was acting squirrelly... especially the release.

Upon further experimentation.  My problem on the replacement minibrute is the same as marcdarc's.  It's the LFO amp knob.  Turning it the slightest bit triggers sound.  No key needs to be depressed.  It's in perpetual "helicopter" mode.   Anyone else have this problem?

Mine does this too, i think they all do.

I would also prefer if it only modulated when a key is pressed.

It's by design.

It has been discussed in this topic:

Thank you for the post, Bruno.  That solves the mystery.
I read that it's by design now.  I don't see any useful applications for it.  When using the LFO, the note never releases.  Powering up with the LFO knob engaged means that a a note sounds without even needing to press a key.  ADSR section becomes virtually irrelevant.... etc.. etc.
And why have a "latch" switch in the back if using the LFO puts it perpetual latch mode?  Sadly this is a deal breaker.
I'm afraid my unit is headed back to the store.    :(

Unfortunately by design does not mean it's the best/cleverest solution...
Your right, it's twice the same function with the Gate selector.
we already had complains about this, but finally most users got used to it and even found useful things to do with.

Yeah, it would be better if it didn't behave this way, but it's just one of this synth's particular quirks.

Would love to see/hear some of the creative patches you're referencing, Bruno.
