filtering an external signal
« on: November 12, 2013, 10:58:14 pm »
Hi,

i am running an external signal through the line in and
was surprised that it is only audible when i hit a key.
(this works even if all OSCs are down; so basically no
sound from microBrute but the external)

is it possible to have the external signal be filtered
constantly no matter if a key is pressed or not
and control the volume with the knob on the back?

thanks for the help

Hello,

you have to open the gate/vca to let the signal pass thru. It works like this on every synth. On my kawai 100f I have a vca slider which is pretty handy when it comes to filtering external audio, and on the korg ms20 you can patch the wheel to control the vca.

Good question how can this be done with the microbrute.

Best regards,
Vic

Unfortunately there is no Hold function on the MicroBrute. You either need to keep a key down with something, either use the gate input with a proper signal.
One trick is to connect pitch out CV to the gate input, but the gate will be open only if you play higher than more or less C3.
The other trick in to connect Env Output CV to Gate Input, having Env sustain at max, and Env amount max too.

If you want a "hold" function, use the connection software to set the sequencer to HOLD.

This is so when you want to filter external audio on the Microbrute, set the sequencer to PLAY and it will let the audio through without having to hold any keys down.
