Change key in a sequence in real-time via MIDI?
« on: July 31, 2014, 05:42:57 pm »
Hi,

I got my Beatstep yesterday and I´m a total noob when it comes to sequencers and synths. How do I change the key in a sequence in real-time? I´ve read that you can do this via MIDI, but I can´t figure this out. I  would really like a step-by-step guide on how to do this.
I use Cubase 6 Elements, Presounus FP10, Korg MS-20 Mini and the Beatstep.
Please help!  :)
Thanks!

As far as I know, to my dissapointment, the only way you can do this is by Shift-Control Knob. Which is unusable in live situation.

Some people report having some half-solution with Ableton, but I suspect it is Ableton transpose feature. Look here:

Ideally, BeatStep would react to the midi input and transpose the key accordingly. BeatStep doesn't use midi input signal internally, it just sends it directly to CV conversion. There is even separate midi channel for that, so it looks to me like a completely feasible feature.

Another possibility would be to use pads for key transpose. Still better than rotary knob.
