For whatever reason, I\n            became immediately obsessed, and that obsession hasn't waned for 40 years. My first synthesizer was a Roland\n            Juno-106, a gift from my mom that she couldn't afford.\u003C/p>\n          \u003Cp class=\"quote\">I don't necessarily know what inspired my passion for synthesis, but I find the intersection\n            of music, synthesis, and interface absolutely fascinating. I play other instruments, but there's something\n            about being capable of authoring timbre as well as music that motivates and excites me.\u003C/p>\n          \u003Cp class=\"quote\">At 17, I had been obsessed with synthesizers for nearly a decade, and my mom thought it was\n            time I should have one. I owned my Juno 106 from 1985 until about 1988. I got an early start in presenting\n            about synthesizers. My mom saw the fascination I had with the synthesizer she had bought me, and she thought\n            her students would probably be interested, too. It should have a characteristic sound that is, irrespective of the timbre, pleasing and musical\n            to the ear, and should allow for the creation of a great diversity of sound. Personally, I like big analog\n            synthesizer that provides as much immediacy and power as they do inspiration.\u003C/p>\n        \u003C/div>\n        \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\n          \u003Cp class=\"quote\">I like vintage analog sounds, extensive functionality, and beautiful tone.\n          \u003C/p>\n          \u003Cp>Like thousands of other synth enthusiasts, Marc picked up the Arturia MiniBrute, the small-format synth\n            that kick-started the affordable analog revolution in the industry. Excited by its potential and iconic\n            sound, Marc dreamed of a larger-scale synth; a “MaxiBrute”. I didn't get much time with\n            it, and with a synth this big, you really need some time to dig in! Even though I only got to experience it\n            for a few moments, I knew it was going to be something amazing.\u003C/p>\n          \u003Cp>Although Doty was initially drawn to the synth by its unique patching matrix, his excitement grew when he\n            discovered MatrixBrute’s “paraphonic” setting.\n          \u003C/p>\n          \u003Cp class=\"h3 border-block\">My jaw dropped.\u003C/p>\n        \u003C/div>\n        \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\n          \u003Cp class=\"quote\">I have always wanted a monosynth that could also split the oscillators into individual notes.\n            I often demonstrated the MiniBrute and MicroBrute together, so I was delighted at the prospect of having two\n            Arturia-style oscillators in one instrument. I've spent so many years telling people that the Arturia-style\n            oscillator is so timbre-rich that you really don't need to have multiple oscillators... but of course, when\n            using the MiniBrute and MicroBrute in tandem, I loved the near-infinite possibility of having two playing at\n            once. Did\n            MatrixBrute live up to the hype? We asked Marc about his first impressions when he finally got to sit down\n            and fully experience what MatrixBrute had to offer:\n          \u003C/p>\n          \u003Cp class=\"quote\">Rarely have I had a synth experience of such awe and inspiration\u003C/p>\n        \u003C/div>\n        \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\n          \u003Cp class=\"quote\">It probably sounds hyperbolic, but my first experiences with the MatrixBrute were like my\n            first experiences with the original Minimoog, and the original ARP 2600. The extensive functionality, the\n            beautiful tone, the interface... it was an awe-inspiring experience. And, of course, I didn't shut it off\n            for days.\n          \u003C/p>\n          \u003Cp>Even after spending countless hours with MatrixBrute, and dozens of demonstration and tutorial videos based\n            around it, Marc is still finding exciting new possibilities with the instrument, and edging closer and\n            closer to its full potential. By 6 I was into Kraftwerk, Rockets and Santana.\n          \u003C/p>\n          \u003Cp>We had the honor of speaking with Claudio, exploring the techniques he used to create his awesome Kraftwerk\n            Tribute, and going deeper into his programming of Arturia’s flagship analog synth. In our interview, we also\n            learned a lot about him as a musician. To say that Passavanti made an “early start” in his music career\n            would be an understatement. When I was in the 2nd grade I took piano lessons in a Catholic school convent. That didn’t last very long but I continued to explore on my own. Around the 5th grade I started exploring guitar as well. For the rest of my life, as I would learn something on one instrument I would see what I could apply from it to other instruments I play. A few years back I counted, and if you stretch the definition of musical instrument, I had about 80 instruments in my apartment. I blame an early exposure to Mike Oldfield’s “Tubular Bells”. \n                                        \u003C/p>\u003C/div> \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\u003Cp>Stack’s vast instrument collection includes everything from synthesizers and guitars to percussion instruments, flutes and bells.\u003Cbr> He also owns many exotic instruments, like ouds and rebabas - middle-eastern lutes and bowed instruments - as well as Japanese and bamboo flutes. His passion for synths stems from an elementary school music class in the Atlanta suburbs, when the teacher played the class an album of classical music, but with a twist.\n                                        \u003C/p> \u003Cp class=\"quote\">We all groaned when she told us it was classical music, but as she talked more about it I was intrigued. It was called \"Switched-On Bach\".\u003Cbr>It was classical music played on a new electronic instrument called a synthesizer. There was still some groaning, but those of us who were Star Trek fans - a new TV show at the time - were paying attention.\n                                        \u003C/p>\u003C/div> \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\u003Cimg alt=\" \" src=\"https://www.arturia.com/images/stories/chris_stack/chris_circuit.jpg\" class=\"img-responsive\">\u003C/div> \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\u003Cp class=\"quote\">Then the music started. Thinking back on it now, it’s hard to describe that experience. Today we can do pretty much anything we want to with sound. You want a sound that morphs between a bagpipe and a backwards bullfrog? No problem. There are new sounds in almost every pop song you hear. Not so back then. Almost every song we heard on television, the radio or our record players in those days was created from the same limited tonal palette. Not so with this album. It was relatively ancient music played on an instrument from outer space and it was made from sounds we didn’t even know could exist!\n                                        \u003C/p>\u003C/div> \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\u003Cp class=\"quote\">The teacher then told us about how the music was created with the Moog synthesizer. That name even sounded like it came from outer space. This was obviously the coolest thing in the world. Not long afterwards I saw Micky Dolenz playing one on The Monkees Saturday morning TV show. You could play more than just classical music on a synthesizer?\n                                        \u003C/p>\u003C/div>\u003C/div>\u003C/div>\u003C/section> \u003Csection class=\"section\">\u003C!----> \u003C!----> \u003C!----> \u003Cdiv class=\"container\">\u003Cdiv class=\"row justify-content-center align-items-center\">\u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12\">\u003Ch2>Meeting Dr. Moog\u003C/h2> \u003Cp>As soon as Chris was old enough to work, he started to buy synthesizers. His first synth was a KORG MicroPreset. Then a KORG 770. Then a Micromoog. Then… many, many more. By the late 80s, his passion for synthesizers and electronics had developed into a career as a printed circuit board designer in South Carolina. He noticed an article in the local newspaper that Bob Moog was hosting a public lecture at a college in Asheville, NC.\n                                        \u003C/p> \u003Cp class=\"quote\">It was only about an hour away, and nothing was going to stop me from attending. I don’t clearly remember everything he talked about, but I think it was a general overview of electronic music from his unique vantage point. I remember him playing the Theremin and also demonstrating a musical concept on a non-Moog keyboard. I believe it may have been a Casio CZ-1. There was a question and answer session at the end and I remember someone rather rudely asking him if he was behind the times because he hadn’t jumped on the digital bandwagon. Bob very graciously answered him and explained that analog and digital were both great tools for creating sound and that analog was just what he knew better.\u003C/p>\u003C/div> \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\u003Cimg alt=\" \" src=\"https://www.arturia.com/images/stories/chris_stack/moog.jpg\" class=\"img-responsive\">\u003C/div> \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\u003Cimg alt=\" \" src=\"https://www.arturia.com/images/stories/chris_stack/bmf_yes.jpg\" class=\"img-responsive\">\u003C/div> \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\u003Cp>After the lecture, Dr. Bob Moog helped clear the stage, and chatted with some of attendees. Chris worked up the nerve to introduce himself, and thanked him for his contribution to, in his own words “all that was good and holy in my universe”. He gave Bob Moog his business card, and said that if he needed a PCB designer, he would be more than happy to help.\n                                        \u003C/p> \u003Cp class=\"h4 border-block\">Bob called me the next morning.\u003C/p> \u003Cp>Chris assisted Moog with the design of the Multi Touch Keyboard project and the Ethervox Theremin. A few years after Bob Moog passed away, Stack became the marketing manager at Moog.\n                                        \u003C/p>\u003C/div> \u003Cdiv class=\"flex-container align-center justify-center mt-4\">\u003Cp class=\"quote text-center\">Strangely, I didn’t get the job because of my connection to Bob, but because my career had segued into marketing, and I had a rather large collection of synthesizers by then. After Moog, I turned my marketing hand to Vo Inventions with the Vo-96 Acoustic Synthesizer Kickstarter. Look at all those knobs!” followed by “Whoa, look at all those buttons!” followed by - when I finally made it through line to get to play one with headphones on : \"Whoa, this thing sounds huge!\"\u003Cbr>To me, synthesizers, particularly many modern analog synthesizers, cry out to be used in an ecosystem with other synths and processors. When I play I almost always have multiple layers of communication happening, usually MIDI for notes and master clocking, and CV for expression and articulation. The MatrixBrute has so many connection possibilities it really works well with other gear, in a wide variety of configurations. It’s also hugely powerful! Occasionally I’ll set each sequencer to different lengths, creating patterns that evolve. ’ll then run them or other synths through these effects, synced to the sequencers. On top of this, I’ll run a number of CV connections between the MatrixBrute and Pro 2 and/or to other synths like a MicroBrute, Moog Voyager or Little Phatty. Playing leads on the Voyager over sequenced patterns while its filter is being modulated by clock-synced CVs and it’s being processed by a clock-synced complex delay on the H9 is a joy! It’s a deep setup, and the MatrixBrute is a big part of why it works.\u003C/p>\u003C/div> \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\u003Cp>One of the main features of MatrixBrute that inspires Chris is its powerful filter options.\n                                    \u003C/p> \u003Cp class=\"quote\">Not only does it have more than one filter, but also each filter has multiple types; not just low pass. It’s hard to think of what led me to become one since\n              music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.\u003C/p>\n            \u003Cp>Tejeida took up piano at age 5, and while he didn’t share the classical ethos of his tutors, that\n              training helped him develop the technique, skills, and theory that he still uses today. Like many an early\n              teen, he discovered the heavier side to music through the likes of Nirvana, Metallica, and Slipknot.\n            \u003C/p>\n            \u003Cp class=\"quote\">Being a pubescent rebel at the time, I came to the conclusion that the piano was never\n              going to be an instrument that I could rock out with, or destroy on stage ala Kurt Cobain. I opted to take\n              guitar lessons, putting the piano aside.\u003C/p>\n          \u003C/div>\n          \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\u003Cimg src=\"https://medias.arturia.net/images/stories/diego-tejeida/d01.jpg\"\n              error=\"function(){return function(){}}\" alt=\" \" class=\"img-responsive\">\u003C/div>\n          \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\n            \u003Cp>As Tejeida discovered more and more bands, he realized that keyboards and synthesizers could open up\n              exciting new sounds for pianists. Listening to the wide variety of sounds that Infected Mushroom, The\n              Prodigy, Aphex Twin, Yes, Pink Floyd, and Dream Theater could create using keys excited him. He realized\n              he could have a near-infinite palette of sounds, and create very evocative atmospheres and sinister\n              sounds.\n            \u003C/p>\n          \u003C/div>\n          \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\n            \u003Cp class=\"quote\">That’s the moment in my life that I realized what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.\n            \u003C/p>\n            \u003Cp>At 18, Tejeida moved to London, England to study at London College of Creative Media, receiving an\n              in-depth training in contemporary music, ranging from blues to jazz. The jazz mentality was something that\n              immediately “clicked”. He went on to study sound design, audio engineering, and electronic music\n              production at Point Blank Music School.\n            \u003C/p>\n          \u003C/div>\n          \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\n            \u003Ch2>Makin’ Haken\n            \u003C/h2>\n            \u003Cp class=\"quote\">I would say that Haken makes music for the curious and the easily bored. The music we\n              create has constant changes and unexpected turns. One of the unwritten laws of progressive rock/metal is\n              to never let the mind of the listener wander—quite the opposite. We tend to play hide and seek with the\n              listener’s expectations without losing musicality, constantly challenging the listener to follow a warped\n              path and to give the music a chance, perhaps more than once, until the opus finally “clicks” or “speaks”\n              to the listener’s ears.\n            \u003C/p>\n          \u003C/div>\n          \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\n            \u003Cp>Over its decade-long incarnation, Haken’s style has been varied and evolving. With rock and metal as a\n              core element, their music also touches on classical music, retro 80s nostalgia, ambient music, EDM, and\n              jazz.\u003C/p>\n            \u003Cp class=\"quote\">If you want to insert a drum and bass section followed by a Gregorian chant followed by a\n              jazz interlude, no one is going to complain. If anything, this would be encouraged.\n            \u003C/p>\n          \u003C/div>\n          \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\u003Cimg src=\"https://medias.arturia.net/images/stories/diego-tejeida/d09.jpg\"\n              error=\"function(){return function(){}}\" alt=\" \" class=\"img-responsive\">\u003C/div>\n          \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\n            \u003Cp>For Tejeida, the word “progressive” isn’t just a label, it’s an instruction that interprets literally in\n              his work as a composer, player, sound designer, and arranger.\n            \u003C/p>\n            \u003Cp class=\"quote\">Back in the 60s, the whole idea of the “progressive” genre was to push all the possible\n              boundaries of every aspect in the music: making use of all the new technologies (synthesizers, multitrack\n              recordings, guitar technologies, etc.), pushing the boundaries of all aspects of the music (arrangement,\n              harmony, rhythm, melody, etc.), and capitalizing on longer songs with varied and complex structures that\n              completely dichotomized the expected “Intro-Verse-Chorus-End” formula or the common 4/4 meter that had\n              become standard in popular music.\n            \u003C/p>\n          \u003C/div>\n          \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\n            \u003Cp>While his skill as a keyboard player goes unquestioned, Diego knows too well that preconceptions of\n              “prog” music tend to be complexity and theory for the sake of it, and takes care not to forego the hooks\n              and catchy elements that get songs stuck in your head and keep people coming back.\u003C/p>\n            \u003Cp class=\"quote\">As with everything you do in life, it is crucial to understand the language until it\n              becomes second nature. A chef, for example, has to learn the taste and flavor of all his spices and all\n              his ingredients until those become second nature. Over time, he develops a refined culinary sensibility to\n              be able know “it needs cardamom” or “a little sherry vinegar” when trying a dish, a detail that for most\n              untrained palates would go unnoticed. In reality, the value of his work resides in his creative mind. Guitar players, for\n              instance, are obsessed with their tone, and it really is a proper science getting the right guitar with\n              the right wood, the right pickups through the right pedals, and the right amp and cab. However, their\n              initial “waveform” (talking in synthesis terms) is always going to be the same: an oscillating steel\n              string. Not to mention the limitations of the range of notes available, the lack of total control over the\n              amplitude, its harmonics, etc. As a keyboard player, you have access to all the elements of a sound: its\n              amplitude, pitch, timbre, etc., and absolute freedom of what “waveform” to use, the harmonics you add, the\n              behavior of the sound over time, etc.\n            \u003C/p>\n          \u003C/div>\n          \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\n            \u003Cp>Over the last decade, harnessing this power became Diego’s quest; making a conscious decision to never\n              use presets, and always program his own sounds, aiming to get a unique sound as a player not only\n              musically, but sonically. To expand his synth horizons, he became the proud owner of an Arturia\n              MatrixBrute.\u003C/p>\n            \u003Cp class=\"quote\">Wow, what a beauty! It really is a very satisfying instrument to look at, from the knobs,\n              sliders, LEDs, the ModMatrix. When I\n              was a student, I was - like most students - poor, so I had to get all my knowledge about sound design and\n              synthesis “in the box” using plugins or emulations. Eventually, I started buying digital synthesizers, but\n              for me, it still wasn’t the real thing. Digital synthesizers are too “perfect,” and oftentimes you have to\n              fight them to get a sound with “character.” Nonetheless, through the use of software and digital synths, I\n              got comfortable with programming and synthesis.\n            \u003C/p>\n          \u003C/div>\n          \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\n            \u003Cp class=\"quote\">By comparison, playing and programming the MatrixBrute is such an overwhelming joy! There’s\n              something so beautiful and magical about making sounds that are being produced by voltage and analog\n              components, rather than working with mathematically perfect sounds being reproduced by an algorithm in a\n              motherboard’s chip.\n            \u003C/p>\n          \u003C/div>\n          \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\n            \u003Cp>While MatrixBrute opens up vast possibilities for analog synthesis, it combines the best of both worlds\n              letting users save their own sounds as presets for quick recall later, as well as 4 assignable “macro”\n              knobs that let you control multiple parameters at once by turning just one knob. We jumped at the chance to ask Tejeida to develop a personalized “signature” set\n              of preset sounds that other MatrixBrute owners around the world could use and enjoy.\n            \u003C/p>\n            \u003Cp class=\"quote\">The signature sound bank that I’ve created for the MatrixBrute is the first time that I’ve\n              released any of my sounds, which is a great ambition and honor for me.\u003Cbr>I always take special care when\n              programming my patches, making sure the sound has character and depth. I also love to add movement to my\n              sounds as part of the expression, having various modulations ready to add throughout a passage. Created with the clear aim of creating a darker, heavier album than their previous\n              releases, Tejeida and the rest of the band have developed a more raw, gritty, analog sound.\n            \u003C/p>\n            \u003Cp class=\"quote\">In terms of the evolution of Haken as a band, the collaborative style of writing is\n              something that I truly love. That has been the band’s way of working for the last couple of releases. No\n              matter how good of a writer one thinks he is, getting someone else involved with a fresh pair of ears and\n              a different approach will always enhance the opus you’re working on. In working this way, you tend to\n              realize not only what your strengths and weaknesses are, but, most importantly, what your teammates’\n              strengths and weaknesses are. For instance, I know that if I’m working on a heavy riff, I would send it to\n              Charlie, or if I’m writing a crunchy guitar line, Richard would be the one to contact.\u003C/p>\n          \u003C/div>\n          \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\n            \u003Cp class=\"quote\">In terms of specific challenges I would like to take up in the future, I would like to\n              experiment more as an electronic musician. Learn your scales. Learn your theory. Learn synthesis and sound design. However, as\n              I mentioned before, I do think this is only the starting point.\n            \u003C/p>\n          \u003C/div>\n          \u003Cdiv class=\"col-md-6 col-12 mt-3\">\n            \u003Cp class=\"quote\">Understanding and analyzing what makes certain tracks or artists so special will give you\n              some very valuable tools and tricks for the future, especially if the artist you’re analyzing is\n              completely unrelated to the genre you want to work with.
