4-Main Functions
Connections
BeatStep Pro can be used in many ways with many types of gear. Below are some examples of setups:

Two common formats can be found for pitch Control Voltage. You can select either V/Oct (Arturia synthesizers, Eurorack modules, …) or Hz/V (Korg, vintage Yamaha synthesizers, …) from the MIDI Control Center application.
Projects
BeatStep Pro allows you to store and recall 16 Projects. Each Project contains a MIDI controller map, and a bank of 16 sequences for each of the three sequencers (Seq1, Seq2, Drum). To recall a Project, hold the PROJECT button and press one of the 16 step buttons. The currently loaded Project will be displayed by a lit button.
Control Mode
The Control Mode allows you to use BeatStep Pro as a standard pad and knob controller. This mode is active when the CONTROL MODE button is lit RED.The pads can be either drum pads or assignable MIDI buttons. The step buttons can be used as MIDI toggle switches. The encoders can be used to control any MIDI mappable parameter in most DAWs, plug-ins and hardware MIDI instruments. The transport buttons can be used as a remote control for your DAW.

All knobs, buttons, pads default to the USER MIDI channel (that can be changed from the controller). You can set them to individual channels as you need using the editor.

To change the global MIDI channel:
Press and hold the CHAN button, the step button that corresponds to the currently selected channel will be lit. To choose a different channel, while holding CHAN, press a step button from 1 - 16.
Sequencer Modes
The Sequencer modes allow BeatStep Pro to act as a step sequencer. This mode is engaged when SEQUENCER 1, SEQUENCER 2 or DRUM button is lit. A step sequencer is perfect for making repeating patterns on synthesizers or drum machines.Make sure you have the BeatStep Pro connected via MIDI, USB MIDI or CV/Gate.
Pressing the PLAY button will start the internal clock and playback. The current step will light in white to show where you are at all times.
When the sequence is in PLAY, the step buttons that are lit will have a note played. You can make a step play a note or insert a rest by simply toggling the button ON/OFF.
Press the KNOBS button in the SEQUENCER 1 or 2 section until PITCH is lit. Try changing the notes by turning an encoder. You will hear the pitch go up or down on the step that you are adjusting. The note value is shown on the TEMPO/ VALUE display.
Press the KNOBS button in the SEQUENCER 1 or 2 or DRUM section until GATE is lit. Try changing the note length by turning its respective encoder. The gate value is shown on the TEMPO/ VALUE display. A gate length of 99% ties the step to the next step.
Press the KNOBS button in the SEQUENCER 1 or 2 or DRUM section until GATE is lit. Try changing the note length by turning its respective encoder. The gate value is shown on the TEMPO/ VALUE display. The values are 1-99%, TIE, SLIDE.
Press the KNOBS button in the DRUM section until SHIFT is lit. Try moving a trig away from its quantized position by turning its respective encoder. The shift value is shown on the TEMPO/VALUE display.
BeatStep Pro allows you access to 16 sequences for each sequencer (SEQ1, SEQ2, DRUM). Change a sequence by simply pressing the SEQUENCER1, SEQUENCER2 or DRUM button and pressing a step button from 1 – 16. The currently loaded sequence will show when you press and hold the RECALL button. Alternatively, you can use the dedicated arrows buttons to move to the previous/next sequence.
Clearing Sequences:Hold SHIFT button and press the step button 1. This will clear the current sequence..
Mute Sequences:Each sequence can be muted using the dedicated MUTE button.
Alternate Functions:There are alternate functions that can be enabled or disabled by holding SHIFT + pressing a pad or turning the main data dial. These include changing the pattern play direction, the tempo/transpose and the time division. Hold SHIFT + STEP 1 button to clear the current sequence.
