La révolution
du supersaw
Dans la deuxième moitié des années 90, la dance music était au bord d'une évolution majeure. La trance et les sons underground progressifs gagnaient en popularité et les producteurs recherchaient un son de synthétiseur puissant et agressif, capable de se démarquer dans les mixages surchargés.
C’est à cette époque qu'est sorti le JP-8000 original, inaugurant un tout nouveau mode d’oscillateur appelé supersaw, qui empilait plusieurs ondes en dents-de-scie pour créer des leads et des nappes amples et chatoyants. Un tournant décisif dans l’évolution de la musique électronique.
Un design accessible et abordable
Le JP-8000 a beau afficher les initiales des légendaires Jupiter de Roland, il ne se positionnait pas vraiment comme un poids lourd de la synthèse. Son panneau de contrôle simplifié, composé de curseurs et de potentiomètres, permettait aux musiciens d’accéder directement à un large éventail de paramètres. Le clavier à quatre octaves et son prix relativement modeste le rendaient accessible aux petits studios et aux producteurs en herbe incapables d'assumer le coût ou la complexité d’un équipement analogique complet. La combinaison de ces deux facteurs a permis au JP-8000 de se répandre dans les studios du monde entier, inspirant une génération de producteurs amateurs et de passionnés de dance music qui trouvaient le contrôle en temps réel plus engageant que les environnements de programmation étriqués de nombreux instruments numériques de l’époque.
L’euphorie du dance floor
De la scène rave underground aux festivals grand public, le JP-8000 est rapidement devenu un instrument incontournable de la trance, de la techno, de la house et plus encore. Sa capacité à produire des leads pulsés, des lignes de basse envoûtantes et des nappes chatoyantes a façonné le son des boîtes de nuit de la fin des années 90 et continue d’inspirer la nouvelle génération d’artistes électroniques. Qu’il s’agisse de Paul van Dyk superposant des progressions intenses ou de Sasha expérimentant des textures plus progressives, la voix du JP-8000 a joué un rôle de premier plan pour cristalliser l’euphorie collective. Il continue de marquer la musique aujourd’hui, puisque sa signature sonore imprègne des genres tels que le hardstyle, l’eurodance et l’hyperpop, qui reposent sur la puissance du supersaw.

"Considered one of the defining instruments for Trance, the JUP 8000-V is capable of so much more than Trance and Techno anthems. My favorite features are by far the versatile oscillators, the X-Mod and the Multi-Arp. Especially the OSC 1 provides a wide range of unconventional and modifiable waveforms, the X-Mod comes in very handy, when some noisy or FM-like stuff is desired, and the MultiArp allows you to create complex patterns in no time. When creating a sound, I often play around with its unique features. It´s like a discovery trip. For the sound demo for example I wanted to create a pattern, which could be both simple and complex, but also fill an arrangement. So the MultiArp was the first weapon of choice. Often, I just play around, until I find something interesting, and then try to develop a sound, or I simply let myself go."

My approach was to try and craft a really wide variety of sounds and timbres covering a lot of styles and exploring deep modulation options leveraging the Advanced features. It seemed that anything I wanted to do could be achieved from simple to complex which is great."
